Abundant Adventures is a full-scale outdoor adventure and guide service offering trips, classes, tours, camps, retreats and more. Abundant Adventures is based out of Cullman, AL, but explores all over the southeast including in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Virginia. We take guests across the southern Appalachians on skiing trips, backpacking trips, day trips and hikes, mountain biking, rock climbing, and kayaking. Along the way, we have some of the most exciting and memorable experiences while enjoying the beauty of nature around us. Abundant Adventures is about enjoying life to the fullest & experiencing these great adventures with friends, family, and others.
We have several instructors who are all top line in making your overall experience the best it can possibly be! No experience is required to attend any of our outdoor adventures, trips, classes, or tours. We offer a full range of Christian retreats and trips as well! We are also working on building several tiny houses and tiny cabins along the Mulberry River that will make for a perfect getaway to enjoy nature, leave the stress of day-to-day life and work, and will be the perfect recharge for you! We will be adding additional adventures in the future, and we are always open to your suggestions!
We are a Christian based company. Our core verse and mission to live out is from John 10:10 in which Jesus says, "I have come to give you life, and give it more abundantly." We are trying to showcase the meaning of that abundant nature by getting people together to enjoy experiences, memory, and great times together, while also showing people the true meaning of God's abundant life through His creation in nature.
Waid Harbison is the Owner and founder of Abundant Adventures. Waid spent the first 10 years of his career working at Cullman Parks & Recreation, which was named a top 4 agency in the nation during his tenure. He was over all of the agency's marketing as well as recreation programs and events, including all of the outdoor programs for the department. He then left to take over as Director of Marketing & Game Operations for the Atlanta Gladiators professional hockey team before returning to Alabama to start A-1 Marketing Services. He most recently was the Chief Marketing Officer for a $!5 million company based out of Washington DC before starting Abundant Adventures. Waid also served as a youth director for almost a year at a large church in Cullman, AL. He has been an avid hiker, backpacker, and skier, as well as occasionally rock climbing, kayaking, and mountain biking for years. He has led similar outdoor adventures, tours, and trips in the past in various other capacities.
In 2021, Waid was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease, a rare neurological disorder that is described as having Parkinson's, ALS, and Alzheimer's all at one time. The onset of the disease is in the mid to late 30s and there is currently no cure for the disease. After finding out he has the disease, Waid decided to dedicate his remaining time back to God and serving out his purpose of reaching as many people as possible for Christ, so Waid started Abundant Adventures to make this difference and show people the abundant life God has for them, as well as show him the greatness of God through His creation in nature. Waid will be leading retreats and adventures sharing his experiences in order to help people understand that God is good all the time. He is currently writing a Christian book to use in retreats, small groups, and for personal use about understanding the nature of God through nature.
